ISR with Melissa Kerlegan
Infant Swimming Resource is the safest and most effective provider of survival swimming lessons worldwide, teaching ISR Self-Rescue® skills to children ages 6 months to 7 years old.
Infant Swimming Resource’s Self-Rescue technique teaches children how to survive if they were to reach the water alone. Lessons are always one-on-one, between the instructor and child. We do not offer group lessons because each lesson is customized to each child's developmental level. The parent(s) or caregiver sits poolside, cheering on the child. Lessons are conducted Monday – Thursday for 10 minutes each day. Studies have shown that young children learn better with greater frequency, repetition, and shorter time requirements for vigorous activities such as swimming.
Babies
Children who can sit up unassisted and or crawl, typically between 6 months and 12 months of age, learn to hold their breath underwater, roll onto their back, and float unassisted until help arrives. These skills are usually mastered in an average of 7-8 weeks.

Toddlers & Big kids
Children who are walking, typically 1 year to 7 years of age, learn to hold their breath underwater, swim with their head down, using their arms and kicks to swim, roll onto their back to float, rest and breathe, then flip over to resume swimming until they reach the side of the pool, crawl out, or be rescued by an adult. These skills are mastered in an average of 7-8 weeks, depending on each child and their past aquatic experience.

Meet Your Instructor
Hi, I’m Melissa, a Certified ISR Instructor proudly serving Pearland, Texas, and the surrounding communities. As a mother of three beautiful children, water safety is more than my profession—it’s deeply personal.
My passion is teaching children life-saving self-rescue skills and helping them become confident aquatic problem solvers should they ever find themselves unexpectedly in the water. Nothing reinforces the ISR mission of “Not One More Child Drowns” more than watching a child successfully demonstrate their ISR skills and knowing they are prepared for a water emergency.
It is truly an honor to provide ISR Self-Rescue® lessons to families throughout the Pearland area. I am also proud to hold an Autism Certificate through the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), allowing me to better support children with diverse learning needs.
Everything I do is rooted in a love for children and the belief that every child can learn when given the right tools, support, and encouragement. Each lesson is customized to meet a child's unique developmental, physical, and emotional needs, ensuring a positive and successful learning experience.
My goal is to empower every child with confidence, essential water safety skills, and a lifelong respect and love for the water.
